Attack on Army camp in Jammu: 2 jawans killed, 3 people injured


Jammu: As per media reports Two army jawans were killed and two other soldiers and the daughter of an armyman were injured when a group of attackers stormed into the Army camp at Sunjawan, on Jammu-Pathankot national highway.

According to The Tribune report Jammu IGP told that attackers involved in the attack were engaged in gun-battle and were likely to be neutralised soon.

“Initial reports suggested that a group of three to four attackers had reportedly managed to sneak into the highly fortified Army camp” he said.

The deceased jawans have been identified as Madan Lal Choudhary and Mohammad Ashraf.The camp has many residential quarters for the families of the armymen.

The attackers breached the rear side of the Sunjawan Army camp near Sainik Colony on the outskirts of the city during the intervening night.

Initial reports suggest that they entered the camp at 5 am. The Sanjwan army camp has quarters for the families of the armymen. A Kendriya Vidayalyaa is situated metres from the attack side.

A high alert has been sounded in Jammu and security beefed up in and around the city.Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spke to DGP SP Vaid and took stock of the situation.

Intelligence inputs had warned of an attack on the Army or security establishment by Jaish-e-Mohammed in view of the death anniversary of Afzal Guru who was hanged on February 9, 2013.
