Ensure Amritdhari Sikh Students are not asked to remove their Kirpans and Karas during examinations: Harsimrat Badal to HRD Minister



Bathinda:  As per media reports SAD MP from Bathinda and Union food minister Harsimrat kaur Badal appealed union human resources minister Parkash Javadekar to ensure Amritdhari Sikh Students are not humiliated during various central examinations by being asked to remove their Kirpans and Karas.

Harsimrat Badal said she had come to know that a Amritdhari girl was asked to remove her  Kirpan and kara at TCS examination center in Bhucho while appearing for  AIIMS (NEET)  examination.

Sikh Articles of Faith (Panj Kakar)

She has requested the Minister to take due action on the issue on an urgent basis.

Badal said the Kirpan and Kara were among the five article of faith (Panj Kakar) of Sikhism. “Asking any one to remove them amounted to violating the basic tenents if Sikhism and humiliate the Sikhs”, she said.

She further said that she had come to know that Sikh Students had faced the similar problem while appearing for competitive examinations in other parts of India.

Badal said officers of HRD ministry needed to sensitized about this issue and necessary orders should be passed to ensure Sikh Students are not subjected to this kind of treatment anywhere in India.
