Amritsar: Sikh leaders demand for probe into Ex Jathedar Giani Gurmukh Singh’s charges on Badals. They appreciated the bold step taken by the sacked Jathedar to expose how political interests influence Panthic decisions. The SGPC’s move to remove Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurmukh Singh has invited strong reactions from the Sikh intelligentsia.
Giani Kewal Singh, former Jathedar, Takht Damdama Sahib, said: “The SGPC move is not surprising, but the reaction by Giani Gurmukh Singh came late. Had he spoken on September 24, 2015, when Dera Sirsa head was pardoned, sacrilege incidents would not have taken place, two innocent Sikh youths would not have lost their life at Kotkapura and the ‘Panj Pyaras’ would not have to go.”
Ashok Singh Bagrian, a Sikh intellectual, said: “The revelation by the Jathedar needs to be probed in an unbiased manner. The silence of other high priests who were involved in the decision to pardon dera head is disturbing. If they do not agree to Giani Gurmukh Singh, they should criticise him and if he is telling the truth, they should quit.”
Manjit Singh Calcutta, former SGPC secretary and an SAD leader, said: “It is an open secret that Panthic decisions are taken under political influence of the Badal coterie. Former Takht Damdama Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh was sacked as he revolted against the anti-Sikh agenda of the Badals.
