After Minor rape, Video sent to her father on WhatsApp



Jalandhar: A video of minor rape circulated on Whatsaap .  A FIR has been registered under Sections 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 366-A (procuration of minor girl), 376 (rape), 3, 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012, Section 3 SC/ST Act 1989, and Section 67 IT Act 2000 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) at Nakodar Sadar police station.

A 14-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old youth in Khanpur Dhadda village,16 kilometers, from Nakodar sub-division of the district on March 23. As per the girls’ statement, the incident came to light when the accused youth’s accomplices sent a video of the incident to the victim’s father, on WhatsApp.


The victim had recorded her statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before a judicial magistrate on March 30.


On Saturday, the accused identified as Navjot Singh Joti, was taken into custody. The six perpetrators who had filmed the act and shared on WhatsApp, are still at large.




The police who had been dilly dallying the matter earlier came into action only after inspector general of police (IGP Zone-II) LK Yadav ordered senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar to arrest all the accused immediately.


IGP also instructed the officials to ensure the removal of the video from the web if it is shared there.


The victim, who is a school drop out was working as field labourer in the same village.


As per the victim on March 23 at 9 pm, she went outside to attend nature’s call, when the accused Navjot Singh Joti forcibly abducted her.


After raping the girl the accused abandoned her in a room near fields.


After some time, the other accused persons Joti’s brother Sukha along with his accomplices Sukhwinder, Jeet, Saabi, Bhinda and Jeeta reached there and filmed the act.


“I fled from the spot and reached my house when they indulged in arguments”, the victim told.


She added, “I was too scared to share the incident with my family”.


“My father got the information about the crime when one of the accused sent him a video” said the victim. After receiving the video the victim’s family lodged a complaint with the police. Only then, the victim narrated her ordeal to her mother.


The victim demanded stern action against all of the accused persons and removal of the video from all social networking sites.
