Phagwara: Yashwant alias Bobby (19 ), a Dalit activist, who was critically injured in the clash, in which three others were also injured on April 13, succumbed to injuries around 1.45 am at DMC Hospital in Ludhiana.
The youth was critically injured in a clash in Phagwara between members of Dalit outfits and Hindu right-wing groups on the issue of renaming a traffic intersection, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital last night.
His body was sent to Phagwara on Sunday morning after postmortem by doctors under tight police security.
The leaders carried his stretcher on their shoulder for more than half-an-hour on Banga Road amid sloganeering and demanding immediate naming of Gol Chowk as Samvidhan Chowk and even placing a memorial of Bobby at the point.

Assistant IG Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh has been given an additional charge to tackle the Phagwara case.

On April 13, clashes erupted in Phagwara between members of Dalit outfits and Hindu right-wing groups after Dalit members allegedly put up a board with a picture of B R Ambedkar at Gol Chowk.
They also tried to rename the intersection as Samvidhan Chowk. Four persons were injured in the clashes.
