Moga: After the arrest of an Inspector and ASI with drug, a Head Constable, Surjit Singh, was arrested on the charges of drug trafficking here today.
As per The Tribune reports, at least 250 gm of heroin, one magazine of AK-47 rifle, three of self-loading rifle, one of stain gun, two of carbine rifle, one of 7.62 mm pistol, 62 cartridges of AK-47 and a few cartridges of other weapons were recovered from his house at Kannian Kalan village in Dharamkot sub-division.
A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered.
Assistant Sub Inspector Sewak Singh, investigating officer, said the accused was produced before a duty magistrate today, who remanded him in police custody for one day.
A senior officer of the Moga police alleged that Surjit used to steal ammunition from the police lines and supply it to the drug smugglers and other notorious elements.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Surjit was earlier facing a case under the Arms Act in Mansa. Some quantity of ammunition was recovered from him in 2011, following which he was terminated from the service. He also remained in jail for many months, notes in The Tribune.
However, before the Assembly elections, he managed to get his job back allegedly through political connections on November 15, 2016.
