Chandigarh: As per media reports the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of the Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested four Sikh youths, who propagate for ‘Referendum -2020’ on Khalistan.
According to police claim that they are going to highlight the ‘Referendum -2020’ issue in Indian Premier League (IPL) matches to be held in Mohali this month and setting buses and liquor vends afire.
“In a joint operation, Jalandhar and Nawanshahr officials arrested Manvir Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Sukhwinder Singh and Randhir at a naka at Gunachaur village on Monday. They are residents of Khan Khana village in Nawanshahr district. They were produced before the judicial magistrate, who remanded them in four-day police custody” ,a note reads in The Tribune.
A police spokesperson said initial investigations revealed that a Facebook page — Referendum 2020 — was being popularised in Punjab by pro-Khalistani elements in Pakistan and Europe. – Hindustan Times
Police claimed that the accused reportedly confessed that they had pasted ‘Referendum 2020’ posters at 20-25 places in Nawanshahr in the past six months. They had also planned to disrupt the forthcoming IPL cricket matches in Mohali.
“The four arrested on Tuesday were active on the page where they came in contact with a fake profile created by a Pakistan-based ISI agent called ‘Fateh Singh’ on Facebook. Singh radicalised these four so that they could be used later to create disturbance in Punjab,” the spokesperson said.
