Bathinda: Tension gripped the area today when Satkar Committee members and the residents of Koir Singhwala village came face to face after the former held a “bhog” ceremony of an “akhand path” at a religious place there.
The police have booked six persons, Kuldeep Singh, Harpreet Singh, Jagtaar Singh, Harwinder Singh, Gollu Singh and Resham Singh, all resident of Koir Singhwala village, under Sections 295, 506, 120-B and 149 of the IPC on the statement of Gurchet Singh, member of the Satkar Committe, but the situation continues to remain tense. Earlier, members of the Satkar Committee held a protest outside the Dayalpura police station seeking action against the organisers of the “akhand path” while alleging that they didn’t follow the “maryada”.
However, when the police booked six persons, the villagers protested outside the police station. Heavy police force was deployed at the village.
Members of the Satkar Committee, led by Sukhjeet Singh Khosa, reached the Dayalpura police station last night and spent the whole night outside it. Khosa alleged that the organisers didn’t follow the “maryada” while holding the “akhand path” and sought action against them. When the police booked six persons today, they ended their protest.
However, the villagers started the protest while seeking cancellation of the case against the six persons. Sukhdev Singh, president of the gurdwara management committee, sarpanch Mander Singh and others today wrote a letter to SGPC chief Gobind Singh Longowal stating that they followed the “maryada”, but some people were creating problems without any reason.
SSP Naveen Singla said the police were deployed at Dayalpura and further action would be taken as per the law.
