Amritsar: SGPC President Kirpal Singh Badungar met Giani Gurbachan Singh on the issue of participation in SAD-BJP’s protest against the Congress government.
SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar told Giani Gurbachan Singh his stand on the protest against the Congress government and later expressed satisfaction over the former’s clarification.
The Jathedar said: “It was my personal opinion that Badungar should have maintained distance from political affairs. I am now satisfied with his explanation.”
Badungar along with other SGPC members sat on the dharna in Patiala on June 11 against the Amarinder government’s failure to fulfil pre-poll promises.
A day later, Giani Gurbachan Singh issued a statement saying that Badungar should have stayed away from participating in political protests.
Today, Badungar met the Jathedar to justify his participation, saying that since many Sikh issues were being affected under the Congress government, he was compelled to raise his voice against it, Notes in The Tribune.
He raised the issue of continuing incidents of sacrilege, encroachment on SGPC-owned gurdwara land at several places and farmer suicides.
