Sikhs block road to protest against Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s death


Kurukshetra: As per media reports Sikhs blocked the road near Thaska Ali village in Kurukshetra on Wednesday to protest against the death of Sikh activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa.

They demanded action against police personnel for forcibly removing Khalsa from the water tank on Tuesday evening.

Shahbad SDM Satbir Kundu offered to form a committee to resolve the tension and observe the final rites.

Bhai Mokham Singh criticised the authorities for hasty action in removing Khalsa from the water tank.

He also slammed the authorities for not taking family of the deceased into confidence on the post-mortem.

Gurbakash Singh Khalsa, who raised the Sikh political prisoner issue at the high level, has dead on Tuesday. He was demanding the release of Sikh Political prisoners, who already completed their sentence.

He started his hunger strike Tuesday and climbed atop the water works tank. When Police personnel started climb down forcibly, he jumped off. He rushed to kurukshetra hospital, where doctors declare him dead.

It’s pertinent to note that he had started his third hunger strike today seeking release of Sikh prisoners today, in his native village near Shahdad , Haryana.

It may be recalled that he started his first hunger strike at Gurdwara Ammb Sahib, Mohali in November, 2013.

Second time he started his hunger strike at Ambala in November 14, 2014 and after 64-days he ended it voluntarily.

On March 20, 2017 again he had started his third hunger strike for release of Sikh political prisoners, which ended with his life.
