Chandigarh: Punajb Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has assailed the Shiromani Akali Dal  President Sukhbir Badal for resorting to desperate measures to malign former Rajiv Gandhi through “false propaganda” aimed at wrongly implicating the former prime minister in  1984 Sikh Genocide.

Lashing out at Shiromani Akali Dal  SAD or questioning Rajiv Gandhi’s role in the Sikh Genocide, the CM ridiculed the persistent efforts of the Akali leaders to defame the former PM, pointing out that he was not even present in Delhi when genocide broke out.

“Rajiv was in Contai, some 150 km from Kolkata, on an election tour of West Bengal”, Capt said.

Amarinder pointed out, accusing Sukhbir of blatantly and deliberately misinterpreting Jagdish Tytler’s statements in a TV interview. The CM also flayed Sukhbir for trying to link Rajiv with a sting operation which Tytler had rejected as doctored video.

It was a matter of record that by the time Rajiv returned to Delhi, massacre had already erupted, he said.

He also accused the Akalis of playing into the hands of divisive forces that were once again raising their head in an effort to destroy Punjab’s peace and stability.
