Bathinda:  As per media reports the residents of Bhagi Bander village in Talwandi Sabo subdivision killed alleged drug supplier.

A cop enquires about the crime at the Civil Hospital in Talwandi Sabo

Sonu was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Talwandi Sabo. Villagers also gathered there and didn’t allow his shifting to Bathinda, fearing that the police could book Amrinder Singh Raju, son of village sarpanch Charanjit Kaur, in the case. The villagers raised slogans against the police for not taking any action on their complaint against Sonu that he had been supplying drugs in the village.

Later, SP (H) Bhupinder Singh persuaded the villagers to shift Sonu to Bathinda. Sonu was then shifted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot late in the evening where he succumbed to his injuries.

DSP Birender Singh Gill said: “A case of murder has been registered. We are investigating the matter.”

Sarpanch Charanjit Kaur and Akali leader Mandeep Kaur Brar claimed that villagers had recently informed the police that Sonu had been supplying drugs in the village, but no action was taken against him as he allegedly had links in the Congress.

They alleged that the police instead registered a case against Raju following a complaint that he attacked Sonu at his home and misbehaved with women there.

Sources said villagers were on their way to meet the DSP when Sonu confronted them. He allegedly misbehaved with women, which infuriated villagers and heated arguments ensued. Later, someone found him with his limbs chopped.
